Petition for a Hoyt Crossing Guard

We respectfully request the Tacoma School District fund a crossing guard, before and after school, at 28th and Union.

While the Washington site does have a crossing guard, the separate Hoyt site, with nearly 100 kindergarden and 1st graders attending each school day, does not. Hoyt is located on Union Avenue with a 30 MPH speed limit. Parking congestion and fast cars create an unsafe environment. A crossing guard will make the crossing at 28th and Union much safer. The crossing guard will also make that intersection eligible for designation as a 20 MPH School Zone. Please help by adding your name to this petition to show the Tacoma School District our concerns.

Thank you,
the Washington-Hoyt PTA

Fill out the form at http://www.wahoyt.org/crossingguard.html

My programs are interactive and tailored to grade level. In my programs, I discuss how I got started, including showing a book that I made when I was in the fourth grade. I stress keeping sketchbooks/journals and I share mine. I shed light on the writing process, from concept to finished book. I will read from my work. Then I do a unique presentation on character creation that will enlighten and inspire students to draw their own characters with my help. I always encourage questions and stress individuality, not perfection."

April Rain Song

Let the rain kiss you Let the rain beat upon your head with silver liquid drops Let the rain sing you a lullaby The rain makes still pools on the sidewalk The rain makes running pools in the gutter The rain plays a little sleep song on our roof at night And I love the rain.

Langston Hughes

Missoula Children's Theater Re-Cap!
What a show!  Our school was treated to a fantastic version of Pinocchio featuring our own actors and directors on February 27th!  So many people pitched in to make it happen.  A big thanks to our office staff including Dr. Knight, Mrs. Green and Mrs. Lipscomb!  Miss Peggy was super crickety as Jimminy Cricket taking tickets.  Laurie Hunger and family along with Mrs. Allegro lead the efforts at the concessions stand.  Once again water was donated by Mrs. Koon and lots of people donated baked goods!  Thanks to those who helped on Saturday – Maryanne Barnes, Justine Russo, Frank Walle and Teri Jo Lietz.  Thanks for those who walked the kids up from Hoyt to Washington - we know of Amy Marlow and Karen Barnett, but there are likely more!  And thanks to those who "tore down" the set on Saturday night – The Walle, Hoseth, Allegro and Llewellyn Families.   A big thanks to our pianists - Rosemary Ponnekanti and Margie Dickerson and our host families - the Weiz/Bjornsons and the Nylands.  Our custodians put in extra effort for the week too - thanks to Visily Dimov and Greg Metcalf.  We look forward to seeing what our kids can do next year and for many years to come.  Bravo to the actors and directors at Washington-Hoyt!  ALSO, we have posted some photos of the show on the bulletin board near the gym.  If you have photos you'd like to add PLEASE DO!  Alison Hoseth and Liz Walle

April 27th - Childrens Author and Illustrator Nina Laden.  Her website is
http://www.ninaladen.com/ .  Here is her description of the assembly.  "I love to inspire students and teachers. I always encourage questions and stress individuality, not perfection." _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ May 14th - The Museum of Flight will present the Flying Gizmo Show.  Website: http://www.museumofflight.org/flying-gizmo .  This fun assembly-style program is designed to help participants discover the science and history of flight through the use of flying toys and models. Our toy collection includes a flapping-winged bird, kites, parachutes, gliders, stomp rockets, and many others. Each participant receives a taketombo, a Japanese flying toy

The clothes closet is low on smaller-sized pants, sizes 5, 6, 7, 8 and 10. We have more than enough in larger sizes, and more than enough shirts, but if you have clean gently used pants of the listed sizes, please consider donating them to the clothes closet.
We also need socks! New or gently used would be great! We need both girls and boys all sizes! Thank you!
