Urgent! Can you build planter boxes? Do you have tools or a truck? The Green Schools Earth Day team needs you! We have some lumber donated by Gray Lumber waiting to be picked up and made into gorgeous planter boxes to line the garden fence with sweet peas...but we need someone to direct us. If you can help, please call Rosemary Ponnekanti on 761-8324. Please also let your teacher know if you can help your class plant on Earth Day (April 22).

Our Plea!!!
We need volunteers for some committees! There are several committees that do not have chairs for next year.
We also need a co-treasurer. There are two people for this board position. The open position requires having the checkbook and paying the invoices. It involves coming to the school several times a month, being available to write checks with little notice, and communication with the other treasurer, and communication with the PTA. If you are interested, please call Shannon Rojecki at 761-2010.
We need a chair for the 5th grade camp for fundraising for spring 2010, and a planner to help the 5th grade teachers in the fall of 2010. Your child should be a 5th grader at those times. Please call Deb Llewellyn if you are interested.
We need a Membership chair. This job is also mostly an at home job. I will be the helper for this committee and will do distribution and collection. The other person would need to do input and printing of cards, and sending in payment. This job is busy at the beginning of the year and tapers off. Call Deb Llewellyn at 753-1494
We also need a chair for Walk to School Day! This happens the beginning of October. It is a small event. There is some photocopying, distribution, and procuring of snacks. Please call Lisa Gainey at 473-9206 for more info.

FROM: Karen Walker, Acting Director Washington Infant Toddler Early Intervention Program SUBJECT: For Your Information: FREE Eyeglasses for Children If you know someone with young children that may need glasses, please share with those who may benefit. Ages 12 and under can get a FREE pair of eyeglasses from Target. Target is doing a special promotion for their optical service. It could end any time but will definitely end no later than April 29th. Children 12 and under can get a free pair of glasses. They need to bring in a valid prescription for glasses from their doctor and Target will let the child pick from about 40 different frames. They will place their best lenses in the frames which are non-glare and scratch resistant and normally sell for $200.00. There are no income guidelines. Any child 12 or under is eligible. You can find stores with optical departments at [LINK: http://www.target.com/] www.target.com; to confirm they are participating before making a trip to their store. Please pass this information on to anyone who can benefit from this promotional offer. If you know someone with lost or broken glasses please share this information with them ASAP, as the promotion could end at any time. They would like families to come in as soon as they can.

Award Nominations

We all know that our school wouldn’t survive without the hours and hours of hard work by our many volunteers and dedicated educators. Now you have a chance to let those extra special ones know you’ve noticed all they’ve done. If you know of a volunteer and/or an educator who has consistently gone the extra mile for our school and community, be sure to nominate them for the Golden Acorn Award. This extraordinary award only comes along once a year, and the nomination form is your opportunity to shine a light on a deserving person. The benefit of presenting a Golden Acorn Award is two-fold. First, it recognizes an individual who has given outstanding service to children. Secondly, it supports financial grants for students pursuing post-secondary education. Donations are made in each recipient’s name to the fund, which in turn contributes to the future of youth by awarding grants to students who are freshmen entering post secondary education.
We would like you to participate in the selection of our award recipient(s) through your recommendation.
The Golden Acorn Award Committee will make the final selection.
Be sure to fill out the nomination form below and turn it in to the office by Monday, April 21, 2009. You may also email us with your nominations to washingtonhoytpta@hotmail.com.
We will be presenting the award at the May 12th PTA meeting.

5th Annual Washington-Hoyt Family Night
with the Tacoma Rainier’s!
Friday, June 5th is Washington-Hoyt’s 5th Annual Family Night at the ballpark. Come and watch the Tacoma Rainiers with your family and friends! Game time is 7:00 pm with Friday Night Fireworks following the game. There are 2 ticket options this year:
· The Double Play which includes: a reserved seating game ticket, dinner (hot dog, soda, and a bag of chips), and a limited edition Rainiers cap for $15.00 per person.
· The Group Express which includes: a reserve seating game ticket, dinner (hot dog, soda, and a bag of chips) for $9.50 per person.

FYI about recent thefts in the Northend. Please be vigilant in locking doors and keeping a watch out!
New incident reported to me 4/3--
I live on 28th and Lawrence and about a week ago ( I can’t remember the exact date) Iooked out my window at 1240pm and saw an Orange Honda Ellement with two people inside with hoods and one of them got out had a flashlight then quickly got back in and the car sped off fast. I didn’t actually see them do anything but I remember thinking it was odd.
New incident reported to me 3/27--
On Tuesday 3/24 in my alley in the north end, they used a cinderblock that was lying in the alley and busted out a Lexus passenger window, they tossed the car pretty well, and the same night down by 24th and Alder they busted out the large back canopy window on a truck. Keep your doors locked while in the house and make sure no valuables are in view inside your car!
- We had two car break ins at night, one at our house (on Union) in the alley and one house back to us on 24 St on the same night few weeks ago.
- We were broke into a few months ago and had things stolen in day light too! My immediate neighbors had a break in through their back door while one of them was home just a few weeks ago. He heard his dog go crazy barking at something and when he got up to see what was going on, there was a young man standing there in his front room shocked to see him. The kid took off running out their front door. My neighbor took off after the kid and tried to chase him down but lost him. Needless to say, they now keep all doors locked during the day and they have a newly installed alarm system!
- Last night our across the street neighbor had his car window ($ide non-opening!) broken into, so thanks for the heads-up. Reminder to not leave anything interesting looking out in sight, especially, money, music, technology or tools. Also don’t forget the last year’s ploy. If you were out in the front yard they’d enter thru the back door assuming you’d leave the doors unlocked to get back in yourself.

| APRIL 3 - 26, 2009 | This is the love story of Ethel and Norman Thayer, who are returning to their summer home on Golden Pond for the forty-eighth year. He is a retired professor, nearing eighty, with heart palpitations and a failing memory—but still as tart-tongued, observant and eager for life as ever. They are visited by their divorced, middle-aged daughter and her dentist fiancé, who then go off to Europe, leaving his teenage son behind for the summer. The boy quickly becomes the "grandchild" the elderly couple have longed for, and as Norman revels in taking his ward fishing and thrusting good books at him, he also learns some lessons about modern teenage awareness—and slang—in return. In the end, as the summer wanes, so does their brief idyll. Time, they know, is now against them, but the years have been good and, perhaps, another summer on Golden Pond still awaits.
