Brownie Troop 1025, as a service project, will be collecting “gently used” or new board games to donate to Phoenix Housing, a homeless advocacy organization. Phoenix Housing provides temporary housing to homeless families in Tacoma and helps the families find permanent housing. They advise that people often donate gifts of toys for infants and babies but they are in dire need of board games, puzzles, etc. for elementary school aged children. Again, the donations don’t have to be new, “gently used” will also be gladly accepted. Please check to make sure the games or puzzles have all the pieces. The receptacle to receive donations will be located in the basement, outside of Mrs. Eichner’s room. The Brownies will be collecting during the entire month of November. ___________________________________________________________________ re-ART ‘08 opening - a smash! We had a fantastic turn out for our artists’ reception celebrating the opening of re-ART ‘08! A million thanks to the artists who were able to attend - this show could not have happened without your fantastic contributions. Without a doubt, the over all consensus was positively outstanding when it came to the quality of the work. We received rave comments about the variety of creative uses for the recycled materials and about how fun the overall show is. We owe a ton of gratitude to Paul Blanchard, Washington-Hoyt Elementary and Ms. Seberson and her 2008 3rd graders for allowing us to use “Trashing America” for our publicity. It perfectly sums up everything this how is about. Gallery Madera 2210 Court A Tacoma, WA 98402 p. 253-572-1218 f. 253-572-1219 www.gallerymadera.com

Editorial Reviews Product Description David Greenberg is an ordinary twelve-year-old trying to fit in. He knows that his father, Jack, is a civil rights lawyer, but Duvy lives worlds away from Dorothy Milton, a black woman struggling to become a registered voter in Selma, Alabama. When Dorothy reaches out to Martin Luther King Jr. for help, she sets in motion a series of events that—with Jack Greenberg’s help—will open Duvy’s eyes to the reality of racial inequality and forever change the course of history. Blending facts, speeches, memories, and conjecture, this novel portrays the emotions and events surrounding the Selma-Montgomery Voting Rights March.
About the Author David T. Greenberg is the author of Slugs and many other books for children. He lives in Portland, Oregon. __________________________________________________________________________
